Mechatronics Engineer
Who we are
Arqus is a space defence company. Our mission is to keep order in orbit. Just as a fighter jet secures the skies and a navy ship secures the seas, we are building the systems that will protect every asset above us, the satellites our economies, our security, and our daily lives now depend on.
Space has become contested. As the orbital domain fills with infrastructure and threats alike, Europe cannot afford to leave its most critical assets undefended. We believe Europe must have sovereign means to deter, defend, and uphold law and order beyond the atmosphere, and we take the responsibility of building those means seriously.
We are an ambitious team of engineers, physicists, and operators applying directed-energy and autonomy to one of the hardest problems there is. We are looking for mission-driven people who want to defend the high ground, and who welcome honest debate about the use of force in space, its limits, and its ethics.
Your Role & Responsibilities
You sit at the intersection of mechanics, electronics, and control. You take a mechanical system and make it move intelligently. At Arqus that means servo-driven pan-tilt systems, embedded motor control, sensor integration, and closed-loop feedback, all eventually integrated into a ROS2-based autonomy stack. You own the full chain: drivers, firmware, sensors, control loops, test rigs, and integration. You are also the fallback for electrical work when the team needs it. If a loop comes back unstable, it is yours to fix.
This is a generalist role with a strong bias for making things work under real conditions. Our hardware has to work on a vehicle, on a boat, in Finland, in the Sahara, and in orbit. Timelines are short: we build the minimum thing that genuinely works, put it in front of stakeholders, and then make it good. We do field tests, live failures, and iterate fast. The expectation is not that you know everything, it is that you figure it out fast, get it running, and refine later. If you need a structured environment to do your best work, this is probably not the right fit. If you thrive without one, it is.
What you’ll build
-
Servo and brushless motor control for high-precision effector pointing
-
Embedded firmware for motor drivers, sensors, and low-level actuator interfaces
-
Sensor integration pipelines (encoders, IMUs, limit switches) into control loops
-
PCB-level electronics for power and signal routing where the team needs it
-
Hardware-in-the-loop test rigs for system validation
-
Integration of electromechanical subsystems with the ROS2 software stack
What we are looking for
You must have NATO member state citizenship.
Required
-
MSc in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
-
3+ years with embedded systems and real-time control, or a strong junior with demonstrable hardware output. Your CV must show hardware you built that was run and used, not just simulated
-
Servo or brushless motor control at hardware level: drivers, control loops, and feedback
-
Comfortable reading schematics, doing PCB bring-up, and using a soldering iron
-
You have built electromechanical systems from scratch
Good to Have
-
ROS2 or ROS experience
-
PCB design in any EDA tool
-
Experience with Jetson, Raspberry Pi, or similar embedded SBCs
-
MATLAB / Simulink for control design
-
C++ and Python for embedded and control applications
