Space Operations Engineer
Who we are
Arqus is a space defence company. Our mission is to keep order in orbit. Just as a fighter jet secures the skies and a navy ship secures the seas, we are building the systems that will protect every asset above us, the satellites our economies, our security, and our daily lives now depend on.
Space has become contested. As the orbital domain fills with infrastructure and threats alike, Europe cannot afford to leave its most critical assets undefended. We believe Europe must have sovereign means to deter, defend, and uphold law and order beyond the atmosphere, and we take the responsibility of building those means seriously.
We are an ambitious team of engineers, physicists, and operators applying directed-energy and autonomy to one of the hardest problems there is. We are looking for mission-driven people who want to defend the high ground, and who welcome honest debate about the use of force in space, its limits, and its ethics.
Your Role & Responsibilities
You operate our effectors in orbit. You will build the operations behind our effector suite: mission planning, ground segment, commanding, telemetry, and the procedures that let us operate a laser payload autonomously and safely. You own the full chain: concept of operations, ground segment, procedures, commissioning, routine operations, and anomaly response. You will also own the definition of operational interfaces to our customers.
What you’ll build
-
Concept of operations for a hosted directed-energy payload
-
Close interface with governmental stakeholders and customers
-
Ground segment architecture: mission control software, telemetry and telecommand, and data pipelines
-
Flight and operations procedures for commissioning, routine operations, and contingencies
-
Interfaces with host satellite operators and ground station providers
-
Orbit and conjunction data handling for target acquisition and space situational awareness
-
Operations simulations and rehearsals ahead of launch
-
Field operations support for our terrestrial systems
What we are looking for
You must have NATO member state citizenship.
Required
-
MSc in Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent
-
3+ years in spacecraft or payload operations, or a strong junior who has operated a real mission such as a CubeSat
-
Telemetry and telecommand, ground segment, and mission control systems
-
Writing operational procedures and executing them under pressure
-
Python for automation and data analysis
-
You have operated hardware in orbit or in the field, not just planned for it
Good to Have
-
Hosted payload or in-orbit demonstration experience
-
Orbital mechanics, flight dynamics, and conjunction data messages
-
Space situational awareness and tracking data
-
CCSDS, PUS, and ECSS operations standards
-
Mission control software knowledge such as OpenC3 COSMOS, YAMCS, or SCOS-2000
-
Defence or security-cleared operations experience
-
German for interfacing with customers
